“The Means of Production,” an Aural History of WRIR

The Means of Production is an audio documentary series from Whitney Whiting tracing the decades-long origin story of WRIR, Richmond’s community radio station, as well as Richmond’s unique role in the broader movement for low-power FM. This series features interviews with dozens of names and voices familiar to long-time WRIR listeners. Tune in all year round as we celebrate WRIR’s 20th anniversary with the media activists, radio rebels, and just everyday Richmond people who shaped your community radio station.
