Promote Your Community Efforts with a Public Service Announcement on WRIR 97.3 FM

Does your organization work to make Richmond a better place? Are you hosting an event that contributes positively to the community? WRIR 97.3 FM Richmond Independent Radio can help amplify your message — for free — with a Public Service Announcement (PSA).

What Is a PSA?

A Public Service Announcement is a short, non-commercial broadcast message designed to inform, educate, or inspire community engagement. Unlike advertisements, PSAs do not promote for-profit products or services. Instead, they focus on public interest messages and community involvement.

Who Can Submit a PSA?

We welcome PSA submissions from:

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Community associations and advocacy groups

  • For-profit businesses promoting nonprofit or community-focused events

What Can a PSA Promote?

PSAs can be used to:

  • Promote nonprofit or community-focused events

  • Share educational, health, or safety information

  • Announce public workshops, forums, or cultural events

  • Raise awareness about local causes or services

⚠️ Important Note: PSAs may not promote fundraising events that financially benefit the sponsoring organization. For such promotions, consider underwriting instead.

PSA Requirements

Your PSA must:

  • Be for a nonprofit event or community organization

  • Serve the public interest

  • Be 30 seconds long (approx. 80 words)

  • Include contact information (email, phone, or website)

  • Provide community-focused content

  • Be open to the public and free or low-cost

Your PSA cannot:

  • Include direct calls to action (e.g., “Join us,” “Be there”)

    Exception: Personal appeals such as “This is Jane Doe. Please join me…”

  • Promote commercial products or services

  • Violate FCC or broadcasting regulations

Submission Guidelines

You may submit your PSA in one of the following formats:

1. Read-Aloud Script

  • 30-second script (about 80 words)

  • Avoid first-person language (“we,” “our”)

  • Include: organization name, event details (date, time, location), and contact info

2. Pre-Recorded Audio

  • 30-second MP3 or CD

  • Must be broadcast quality

  • Can include music or sound effects

  • Must include a kill date (end date for airing)

How PSAs Are Aired

PSAs are aired at the discretion of WRIR’s on-air hosts and are not scheduled for specific times. For guaranteed promotion, we recommend exploring underwriting opportunities with WRIR.

Submission Deadline

Please submit your PSA at least two weeks in advance of your event. This allows time for review, possible editing, and scheduling.
