Pop! Pour les fêtes et la famille
Bientôt les fêtes !
Soon it’ll be the holidays, and I wanted to get you hyped about the festivities with a pop-electro mix on Francosonic!
Although Thanksgiving doesn’t exist in France, Canada does have its Thanksgiving in October (the origins of which are quite different from the American version). Néanmoins (nevertheless), I wanted to share with you a little French / Québécois vocabulary smorgasbord related to Thanksgiving & the holidays from today’s show:
Thanksgiving food:
la dinde = turkey
les ignames = sweet potatoes
la tarte à la citrouille = pumpkin pie
Vendredi noir = Black Friday (note that this does exist in Canada, and Canadians used to cross over the U.S. border to take advantage of great deals, so why not have their own?)
Travel-related expressions:
voyager = to travel
un logement = place to stay
visiter la famille = visiting/ staying with family
tu me prends pour une valise ou quoi ?! (Canadian French) = do you take me for a fool or a what? / What, do you think I’m an idiot?
