Northern Soul with DJ Miss Kitty
Today’s Cause & Effect explores the vibrant Northern Soul movement that emerged in Northern England in the late 1960s and 1970s and continues to influence British music, fashion, and youth identity with subsequent revivals in the early 2000s and today. We’ll talk about the underground dance culture that revolved around rare up-tempo mid-sixties American soul records, particularly from lesser-known Motown-style artists and highlight the iconic venues like the Wigan Casino, Twisted Wheel, and Blackpool Mecca, where all-night dance marathons created a passionate subculture fueled by amphetamines and fast-paced soul music!
