Breakfast Blend w/ Galaxy Girl & Friends

Galaxy Girl – 20210617 – Liberation

Thu, Jun 17, 2021

This week’s show is a bit of a celebration of Juneteenth, which commemorates the June 19, 1865 emancipation of enslaved African-Americans in the United States. (You probably know that the Emancipation Proclamation freed people in 1862. And that’s technically true. But the last enslaved folks in Texas weren’t freed until federal soldiers arrived to enforce Emancipation in 1865. Our country’s history is pretty messed up, y’all. It’s important to learn about the good, the bad, and the ugly.)

Ok, that’s the end of today’s history lesson. I hope you enjoy the music I’ve picked out for this week! I’ve got music by Anjimile, Esperanza Spalding, Val Jeanty, Dizzy Gillespie, Judith Hill, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, and MUCH MORE! Thanks for listening!
