Sacred Grove (1st & 3rd) / Single Use (2nd & 4th)
Sacred Grove 6/16/26
Welcome to the Sacred Grove!
Today we have a dreamy show featuring a little guest mini-set curated by my dad, in honor of next weekend’s father’s day! We will also hear an improv guitar piece he performed at a dance workshop.
His words: “The songs that I picked here represent very specific times my in my listening life, from the 50s doo-wop I’d fall asleep to on AM radio as a kid (the Flamingos), to the 60s era rock we all listened to in high school and college (Lovin’ Spoonful), to some of the jazz I was listening to in grad school, when I first started playing in bands (Wayne Shorter, Pharaoh Sanders). They’re all linked together in my mind, and I hope some of you may find your own points of connection between them as well!”
His tracks:
Ponta de Areia – Wayne Shorter
I only have eyes for you – The Flamingos
Astral Traveling – Pharaoh Sanders
Timeless – John Abercrombie
Coconut Grove – Lovin’ spoonful
Corcovado (live) – Antonio Carlos Jobim + Gal Costa
