Open Source RVA February 9, 2024
PLAY BALL WITH THE SOURCE!! On Friday’s fast pitch, high pitch edition of Open Source RVA, heard at noon on WRIR 97.3 FM, Don Harrison has a lively conversation with the one and only Todd “Parney” Parnell. The master of ceremonies and former franchise CEO of Richmond Flying Squirrels tells us why he stepped down last year to become a special advisor to the AA minor league team, and gives us details on the Squirrels’ ambitious new plans for a ballpark (which may include a “Parney’s Pub” restaurant). He also regales us with tales on how he got mixed up in this baseball business in the first place (as for his comedy skills, stay tuned to the end of the show). THEN Dina Weinstein talks with opera singer Damien Geter, who will perform in Virginia Opera’s production of “Sanctuary Road” at the Carpenter Theatre this weekend. The opera by Paul Moravec is based on the writings of William Still, and tells the inspirational true-life stories of Richmond’s Henry “Box” Brown and Portsmouth’s Clarissa Davis. BASEBALL AND OPERA! What more do you want, radio listener? Listen Friday at noon on WRIR 97.3FM and wrir.org.
