Open Source 4/22: The James River
Open SourceOpen Source 4/22: The James River
This Friday is Earth Day, so we're dedicating the entire hour of Open Source to our city and region's greatest natural resource: The James River. The mighty James made it into the news cycle this week when it crested at 15.1 feet, which is considered "moderate flood stage." Richmond residents also received a Consumer Confidence Report on our drinking water this week, which incidentally, comes from the James River. So, what is the state of the river? How are we managing our drinking, waste and stormwater? Are we being good stewards for our downstream neighbors and managing resources accordingly? Chris French, director of the Virginia Chapter of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay will help us figure it out.
In the second half hour, we're excited to welcome Rachel Flynn, former head of community development, into the studio to talk about real estate development along the riverfront, among other topics concerning land use in Richmond. As always, our show is more fun when you call (649-9737) or email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) with questions. We'll be live tomorrow morning at 10am on 97.3 FM and streaming at wrir.org. Podcasts of the show will be available in the early afternoon at http://soundcloud.com/rva-open-source
